Greek Word Study:
Faith: ‘pistis’: moral conviction (of religious Truth); reliance upon Christ for Salvation, constancy in such profession.
Love: ‘agape’: from ‘agapao’: love, affection, benevolence; N. from ‘agapao’, to love; the effect or proof of love, benevolence, benefit conferred. (Eph 1:15) syn: ‘philia’: friendship based on common interests (Christ).
Give Thanks: ‘eucharisteo’: the giving of thanks, an expression of gratitude to God, as an act of worship. Gratitude, Thanksgiving.
Father: ‘pater’: father, in a special sense, God. God the Father, watching over them with paternal love and care, thus in NT God is called Father: a) claimed improperly by unsaved (Jn 9:41-42); b) properly ascribed to all those who are saved. (Matt 6:4, 6,8,14,15,18; Ro 1:7; 8:15; 1 Cor 1:3; 2 Cor 6:8)
Spirit: ‘pneuma’: Of the Spirit of God. In the NT referred to as “the Spirit of God”, “the Holy Spirit”, in an absolute sense as “the Spirit”.
Wisdom: ‘sophia’: Spiritual wisdom; in respect to divine things, wisdom, knowledge, insight, deep understanding represented everywhere as a divine gift, including with idea of practical application. Sophia stands for Divine Wisdom: the ability to regulate ones relationship with God. (Eph 1:17)
Revelation: apokalupsis: from apokalupto; to reveal, used metaphorically in NT: as the removal of the veil of ignorance and darkness by communication of Light and Knowledge. (Eph 1:17)
Knowledge: ‘epignosis’: ep-i-no-sis’: Full discernment, to become fully acquainted with. N. from epignosko; the act of coming to a full knowledge of what is known in NT about God, Christ, Divine Things. (Eph 1:17)
Eyes: ‘opthalmos’: the eye; (by imp) vision; used met. In Eph 1:18: the faculty of knowing.
Heart: ‘kardia’: N. meaning heart; in NT used only fig. in Eph 1:18: the seat of intellect, understanding
Enlightened: ‘photizo’: from ‘phos’ to shed rays of light, enlighten; to impart spiritual light (Eph 1:18)
Know: ‘eido’: properly to see; to know; to understand and to be sure of the force and meaning of something which has a definite meaning. (Eph 1:18)
