Substitutionary bearing of one person’s guilt by another; to take a way guilt or to forgive. “Atonement”: ‘kaphar’: kaw-far: to cover; (fig) to expiate, to cancel, annul, atone, forgive, pardon. A verb meaning to cover, to expiate, to reconcile. The word communicates God’s covering of sinners in righteousness; Christ’s shed blood = perfect atonement.
