Our History
First Baptist has a long and significant history in Shelby, OH. Planted in 1898 by a small group of committed followers of Jesus, the church grew into its first facility in 1909. The church served the Shelby community effectively and continued to thrive into the middle of the 20th century. A new facility and parsonage were built on its current location at 185 South Gamble St., and were dedicated in 1965.
Today, First Baptist Church continues this legacy of faithful ministry in Shelby. For more than a century, we have been rooted in gospel-centered preaching, the faithful exposition of God’s Word, and a love for one another that reflects the heart of Christ. We trust in God’s sovereign grace to build His church, guiding us as we proclaim Christ, equip disciples, and faithfully serve our community and beyond. By His Word and Spirit, we seek to honor the faith of those who went before us, remaining steadfast in our commitment to the Great Commission while looking forward with hope and confidence to all that He will continue to accomplish through His people for His glory.
