Our Story
First Baptist has a long and significant history in Shelby, OH. Planted in 1898 by a small group of committed followers of Jesus, the church grew into its first facility in 1909. The church served the Shelby community effectively, and continued to thrive into the middle of the 20th century. A new facility and parsonage was built on it current location at 185 South Gamble St., and was dedicated in 1966. Into the 70’s and early 80’s the church grew in membership, with a good youth and children’s ministry, touching families, youth, and children with the good news of Jesus.
While the membership has declined over the past 25 years, First Baptist is moving forward with a “New Vision” to touch children, youth, and families with the life changing love of Jesus. We have a clear mission. We have a Faithful Heavenly Father who is guiding us. And we truly believe that our best days are yet to come!
Throughout its 100 plus year story, First Baptist has preached Jesus, has remained faithful and committed to the Bible as it’s sole authority for faith and practice, has been active in local and global mission outreach, and has been a loving family with a big heart for people.
