A masc. noun meaning a servant, a slave. Although the most basic concept of this term is that of a slave, biblical slavery was not the same as the slavery of modern times. The Term is also applied to those who worship God (Ne 1:10). The phrase, the servant of the Lord, is the most outstanding reference to the Messiah in the OT (Isaiah 42:1, 19; 43:10; 49:3. 5-7; 52:13; 53:11) Gk: servant: doulos: a slave, (Lit. of Fig., involuntary or voluntary; frequently therefore in a qualified sense of subjection of subservience): - (Bond-) servant, slave.
