Greek Word Study:
In Expectation: ‘prosdokao’: From ‘pros’ (forward to, toward) and ‘dokeuo’ (to watch): - to anticipate, to look forward to (in thought, hope or fear); (by implication) to await: - expectation, look for, wait for. To expect one’s coming (Lk 3:15)
Questioning: ‘dialogizomai’: from ‘dia’ (an intensive) and ‘logizomai’ (to reckon, reason): - to reckon thoroughly i.e. (genitive) to deliberate (by reflection or discussion): discern, discuss, question, think. To reckon through, to settle an account, in NT, to consider, reflect, ponder. (Lk 1:29; 3:15)
Baptize: ‘baptizo’: from ‘bapto’ (to make fully wet); used only in NT of ceremonial ablution, especially (technically) of the ordinance of Christian Baptism: - Baptist, baptize, wash. Immerse for religious purposes, to administer the Rite of Baptism, either that of John or Christ. (Lk 3:7, 16)
Strap: ‘himas’: A strap (special) the tie (of a sandal): - strap [custom of lowliest servant untying the strap of his master] (Lk 3:16)
Holy Spirit: ‘Hagios Pneuma’: Divine Spirit: God, Christ’s Spirit, The Holy Spirit; (manifestation of) the Spirit. The technical expression “to be baptized in (or with) the Holy Spirit refers to the Spiritual Baptism into the Body of Christ for all who are truly saved. (Lk 3:16)
Clear: ‘diakatharizo’: to cleanse perfectly i.e. (special) winnow: - clear. Cleanse thoroughly [Thayer] (Lk 3:17)
Threshing Floor: ‘halon’: [probably from heilisso (roll up) (to coil or wrap) ‘heilo’] a threshing floor (as rolled hard) i.e. (fig) the grain (and chaff, as just rolled/threshed): - threshing floor. (Lk 3:17)
Barn: ‘apotheke’: from ‘apotitheke’ (to put away): - a repository, i.e. granary: - barn. [Heaven is God’s Granary to which Christians will be gathered] (Lk 3:17)
Unquenchable Fire: ‘asbestos1 pur2’: from 1, as a negative particle) and a derivative of ‘sbennumi’ (not extinguished): unquenchable1 and ‘pur’: fire2 (lit or fig, specially lightning): - burning, fiery i.e. (by implication) perpetual fire – unquenchable fire. [Fire which burns perpetually] (Lk 3:17)
Preached: ‘euaggelizo’: to announce ”good news” (evangelize) especially the Gospel: announce, tell, bring good news, preach ([the] Good News), The Gospel: - proclaim. Spoken of the annunciation of the Gospel of Christ and all that pertains to it: to preach, proclaim, with the idea of good tidings being implied. Preach the Kingdom of God, implied (Lk 3:18)
 
Evil: ‘poneros’: from a derivative of ‘ponos’ (hurtful)(anguish) i.e. evil (properly in effect or influence and thus differing from ‘kakos’, which refers rather to essential character, as well as from ‘sapros’ which indicates degeneracy from original virtue; (figurative) calamitous; also (passive) ill, i.e. diseased; but especially (morally) culpable i.e. derelict, vicious, facinorous; neuter (singular) mischief, malice, or (plural) guilt; masculine (singular) the devil, or (plural) sinners. (Lk 3:19)
 
Heavens: ‘ouranos’: the sky; by extension the Abode of God (heaven). Of the upper superior heaven, beyond the visible firmament, the abode of God and His glory of everything that is said to be with God. (Lk 3:21)
 
Bodily Form: ‘somatikos eidos’: corporeal or physical; bodily. Adj. from soma (body) Bodily, having a shape (Lk 3:22) and ‘eidos’ (a view) i.e. form (lit or fig): appearance, form, sight from ‘eido” (to see). The act of seeing, the thing seen; the object of sight, form, appearance (Lk 3:22)
 
Beloved1 Son2: ‘agapetos1 uihos2’: Jesus Christ as the Son of God Most High; in Jewish sense, the Messiah, the expected king of the Jewish Nation, constituted of God; ruling the world. Used only of Jesus Christ in NT. (Lk 3:22)
